Team Genesis Book 1
Chapter 8:
Background Story

The gang continued to drive through the night until arriving at a small motel in the outskirts of Central City.  Believing they wouldn’t need the vehicle anymore, Rocco leaves Alexis and Damian to sell the vehicle and buy food for the night.  Alexis buys a room and takes Damian and herself in.  It was a basic room with two beds, a bathroom, a TV and a mini kitchen.  Alexis sets Damian on one of the beds, taking care not to harm his leg more.  “How you feeling Damian?” Alexis asked.
“Better I suppose,” he answered.  “By tomorrow, I’m sure I’ll be no longer a dang cripple.”  Alexis' eyes rolled at the sarcastic chameleon.  At the same time, she felt relief that they were all safe.  She took a seat on the other bed and took out the chaos emerald.  The energy within it surged and created a radiant glow in her hand.  “It’s incredible,” she started.  “How can such a beautiful gem contain such destructive power?”
“And to think it’s just one emerald,” Damian chimed in.  “Just think what will happen when we have all seven of those babies together!  Just thinking about it is exciting!”
“It’s no wonder then that so many people have died for these gems.”  Alexis put the emerald away.  Shortly after, Rocco came barging in arguing with the gate keeper.  “Mind your own goddamn business!” he shouted as he slams the door and angrily starts to take food out of his bag.
“What’s wrong?” Alexis asked.
“Nothing really,” Rocco said.  “Just some stupid guy who has a sick mind.”
“Let me guess,” Damian started.  “He thinks we’re a threesome due to the fact we’re in a motel?”
Rocco nodded.  “And after I denied it, he follows me here trying to make me ‘admit it’!”
“He has some nerve,” Alexis pouted.  “I’d be caught dead first than in a threesome.”  She then turned to taking things out of her bag.  Rocco began to look at her wings and wondered where she had gotten them.  They were a wing shape he had never seen.  Catching Rocco staring at Alexis, Damian chuckled.  “I just realized there are three of us and only two beds!” Damian joked.  “Who’s sleeping with whom?”
Alexis turned around.  “What’s that supposed to mean Damian?”
“I don’t know,” Damian sarcastically said.  “I mean, by the way he was looking at you, I’d say Rocco would like to sleep with ya.”  Rocco muscles froze at those words.  Alexis blushed a bit and looked at Rocco, who then gave a mean glare at Damian.  “Sorry, should I have kept my mouth shut?” he joked.
“Especially with something like that!” Rocco scolded.
“Well,” Alexis shyly said, turning her head away a bit.  “It’s…… not a problem for me.  I mean…… it’s not like we’ll…….you know” Rocco scratched the back of his head.  “I know what you’re saying.” he started.  “But that wasn’t what I was thinking about when I was looking at you.”
“Then what?” she asked.
Rocco looked away and sighed.  “I was wondering why a bobcat like you would have wings.”  Alexis froze, as if a secret had just been discovered.  “Now that he mentions it,” Damian said, turning to Alexis.  “That old man did call you a hybrid.  He just never said what kind of hybrid.”  Alexis turned away from the guys.  “It’s a bit hard to talk about that.”
“We ought to know if we’re working together,” Rocco argued.  “Plus we’d like to know.  We know you’re a half bobcat, but from what did you get the wings?”
Alexis sighed.  She stood there for a moment and answered “Dragon.”  The guys stood there with their mouths clinging open.  They weren’t sure how to react or if to believe it.  “Dragon?” Damian asked.  “You aren’t pulling our leg here are ya?”
“You need proof?” Alexis asked, turning to the guys.  She began to take off her right glove, revealing a green, scaly, dragon claw.  Both guys fixed their eyes at her hand in amazement and surprise.  “But…. how?” Rocco asked.  “Dragons have been extinct for centuries now.  How could you possibly be half-dragon?”
Alexis turned around and looked out the window.  “It’s a really long story, but I guess we have all night.”  She let out a deep sigh.  It had been raining for a while now.  “My mother,” she started.  “She used to be a scientist.  She had joined this other group of scientists called the Bio-Resurrects.  She told me that the Bio-Resurrects formed 40 years ago when a group of scientists discovered an abandoned base that belonged to Eggman.  Within the computer’s memory bank were documents on a morphing experiment Eggman had developed that could allow him to create any creature that had ever existed.  He applied the test on a robot called Metal Sonic, which allowed him to morph into any creature he had seen.  The Bio-Resurrects wanted to use that morphing program to develop a way to bring extinct species back to life.  23 years later, they finally managed to generate a dragon sperm with the DNA from a dragon fossil recently found in Chun Nan.  My mother, recently joining the group, was among the women who were selected to attempt to give birth to that sperm.”
“But why her?” Rocco asked.  “Dragon’s are reptiles and I suppose she’s a mammal.  Why didn’t they just do it with another reptile?”
“There weren’t many reptiles working with the Bio-Resurrects.” Alexis responded.  “And they needed to make sure they could bring the specimen to life.  They applied the sperm into 10 different women of different species; my mother among them.  Six of them didn’t fertilize and three others lost the child a few months into pregnancy.  But my mother managed to keep her child and give birth to me.  She knew then…..” Alexis hesitated for a brief moment.  “I would have been submitted to several tests and experiments.  My mother though had grown fond of me and wanted to be a mother much more than a scientist.  So she ran away with me.  And she raised me as well as any mother could.  She told me the whole story when I was six, so that I’d know the truth.  I felt like I was a special person and that people would accept me.  But….” tears started to gush out of her eyes.  “Whenever I left the house and someone found out that I was half-dragon, they’d treat me like I’m just some…….. abomination!”  Alexis started to cry harder.  Rocco took notice and went forward to embrace her.  “It’s alright Alexis.  Don’t cry.”  Alexis looked up at Rocco.  “You don’t think that too, do ya?”
Rocco smiled and shook his head.  “I’m not prejudgemental.  If I were, I don’t think I would have taken the chance to get to know you.  You’re a great girl Alexis; helpful, sweet, very capable of anything, and….” Rocco blushed a bit.  “For a hybrid of an extinct species, you’re really beautiful.”
Alexis wiped the tears from her eyes.  “Thank you,” she said.  Damian got up from the bed and hopped over to his friends.  “Hey, don’t leave me out of….” he started to say.   But on his way over, he lost balance and fell over Alexis, who in turn fell over Rocco.  After landing in the bed and after a brief silence, the three friends started to laugh.  Before they could move, the gatekeeper came into the room with a bottle of orange juice.  “Hey kid, you left this carton of ju….” he started, before noticing the dog piled teens on the bed.  “I KNEW IT!  There was going to be a threesome!”  The three of them got of the bed.  An angered Rocco got his katana and flinged the scabbard off toward the gatekeeper, knocking him out.  “Remind me to never come back here.” Rocco said.
Damian nodded.  “As if my little trip wasn’t embarrassing enough.”  Alexis, on the other hand is laughing.  “So much for not winding up in a threesome, huh guys?” she said.  Noticing how happy she’d gotten, they guys chuckled as well.  “I’m glad I got to meet you guys,” she continued.  “You’re the first real friends I’ve had ever.  Thank you.”  She approached the guys and gave them both a kiss on the cheek, leaving them with a nice shade of red.  “Heh,” Damian chuckled.  “It was great to meet a dragon-bobcat as well.”  Rocco chuckled and nodded to his friend’s comment.  The three friends spent the rest of that night sharing stories and laughs before all of them went to sleep.

Back at Axel Sector 2, soldiers were continuing to reinforce the base wall to wall, assigning soldiers to mount outside and await the impending attack and taking any necessary resource to protect the Chaos Emerald from the three kids that took the one at Moonlake.  One soldier, Agent 229, went to report to the generals of the current status.  “Sector 2 is nearly at full defense sirs.” he said.
“Good, very good,” 21 nodded.  22 scowled a bit.  He still didn’t want to believe that all the measures they were taking were for a bunch of teens.  “I suppose you’ve also tested the X04S Phantom prototype to see if it’s operational.”
“We tried sir,” 229 responded.  “Phantom’s weapons are set and ready for launch.  But it seems that the machine won’t start up.  We believe it may be a lack of energy, but if it’s true, it means we’d need the same amount of energy to power this building to get it to work.”
“You sure about this?” 22 asked.
“I checked myself sir.”
21 sat down and thought for a moment.  Then he came up with a brilliant idea.  “We have that kind of energy already.  In fact, we have more than enough.”
“I beg your pardon sir,” 229 said in confusion.  22 also gave his partner a confused look.
“You see, what we are doing right now is setting up a defense for the Chaos Emerald, a supreme energy source with catastrophic powers.  But what we aren’t doing is using it to our advantage.  Therefore, what better thing to do for the defense of the emerald than to put it to the offence.  Install the emerald immediately on Phantom.  And after you’ve checked that it can go online, set it to stand by until the motion sensors detect something.  Then evacuate the room immediately.”
“Right away general,” 229 responded as he left the room.  22 let out a heavy sigh as he lit a cigar.  “I just don’t understand why so much precaution.” he said.  “They’re just three adolescents.”
“That’s the kind of mentality that caused our failure over at Moonlake.  That alone is why we must be prepared to the highest degree.  Failure is not an option this time.”
“Bah,” 22 scowled.  “There’s no way they can take the emerald this time.  Emerald or not, they can’t possibly match the power of our entire sector.
21 sighed and looked out the window, observing the final checks on Phantom just outside.  “Do you remember when Dr. Eggman was still alive?”
“What about Eggman?”
“He devised an army of robots far superior than any country in this world.  He even kept the Guardian Unit of Nations at bay with his army, something we have yet to succeed in doing.  And yet, a bunch of teenagers, led by Sonic the Hedgehog, kept HIM at bay, foiling his every plan until his death.  What makes you think this is any different?”
22 took a big puff of his cigar.  “Simple.” he started.  “Those events were 50 years ago.  Back then, the Sonic Heroes did exist.  But now there isn’t a force alive that can match them, and surely not us.  The only reason GUN doesn’t fear us is because we’ve yet to terrorize this world, therefore they don’t suspect anything.”
“Nevertheless, history has had the tendency to repeat itself,” 21 answered.  At that very instant, Phantom being activated.  The force emitted from Phantom shock the office they were in.  “We just need to make sure it isn’t now.”
