Chapter Two: The Reality Is….

The bell rings.  It’s lunch time at Emerald High School.  All the students head out to find their friends, make way to lunch, and to make plans for the upcoming dance.  A group of girls from the student counsel were preparing the gym.

Back in the lockers, Rocco bangs his head against his locker in shame.  “Why, why, why, WHY?!” he asked.  “I can’t believe I was daydreaming!  This couldn’t be any worse.”

His best friend Damian Ramsey the Chameleon leaned on the locker next to his, changing his skin tone at a fast rate.

“Look at me!  I’m a hazard to epileptics!” he joked.

Rocco looked back at him.  “This is serious dude.  It was the most embarrassing thing ever.”

“Will you relax?”

“Only if I had a way to make everyone forget what happened there.”

Damian stopped changing colors, remaining on green.  “Rocco,” he started. “Everyone daydreams.  And a good 34% of those people tend to daydream out loud”

Rocco flinched in confusion.  “How’d you come up with that number?”

“I made it up, I honestly have no clue!”  Damian laughed.

Rocco frowned.  “You just can’t take anything serious can’t you?”

“At least I can contain myself.”  Damian started to get serious.  Both of them headed to the courtyard “Rocco at the rate you’re going, you’ll die of embarrassment before you even get a chance at becoming a ‘Great Hero.’”  Damian put his hand around him.  “All you’ve got to do is wait for something bad to happen, make it better, and then you’ll be a hero in the eyes of everyone.”

“That’s the problem though.” Rocco remarked.  “Nothing bad happens in Emerald Town.  At least not since Dr. Eggman was defeated for the last time 50 years ago.”  He leaned on his locker.  “I sure wish I was there.  It was supposed to be the greatest fight between him and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Damian’s face lit up.  “Speaking of Sonic, check this out.”  He handed Rocco a ball.  “Toss that ball as hard as you can toward the other end of the school.”

Rocco took the ball and looked at his friend skeptically.  “We’ve done this already.  I already know you can run to the other end in a second flat.”
Damian lifted a finger.  “Just do it will ya?!”

Rocco rolled his eyes.  He threw the ball toward the other end of the school.  But in a blink of an eye, it disappeared from the sky.  Startled, he turned around to see Damian standing behind him.  “Well?”  Damian lifted his hand showing the ball in his hand.  “What the hell?!?”  Rocco exclaimed in excitement.  “Damian, that was faster than ever!”

“Looks like someone’s feeling better now,” Damian said.

“And talented I can say.” Someone came up behind the two.  It was the star of the baseball team, Ricky Samsung.  “How come you guys aren’t in the baseball team?  You two would make our team better than it already is.”

“Cause I’m not interested in joining school sports,” answered Rocco.  “I have to practice using my katana.”

“And I’m not allowed to join due to being insanely fast,” Damian pitched in.

“That’s too bad” Samsung replied.  “That kind of speed is very useful Danny.”

“Damian,” Damian corrected.

“Right, sorry” Samsung apologized.  “How fast were you going?”

Damian started to think.  “I’d say at least 700 miles per hour.”

Samsung was in awe.  “Wow.  That’s wicked fast”

“Well, it ain’t Sonic speed, but I’m getting there.” Damian said proudly.

“Yeah, cool,” Samsung said.  He then turned to Rocco “But you don’t have any excuse on not trying out.  The only guy I know with a better pitch is.............me.”

“I’m just not interested in baseball,” Rocco remarked.

“And being a wanna-be hero is what you want to do for the rest of school?” Samsung teased.

Rocco was now mad.  “Listen you little….”  Suddenly Rocco’s eyes fixed on the dance committee girls.  One of the girls was hanging the sign in front of the gym.  Suddenly, another girl passed in a hurry and bumped the ladder the first girl was on.  She started to scream as she started to fall.  Rocco took off after her and jumped to catch her.  A crowd gathered around Rocco and the girl.  “Are you alright?”  Rocco asked.
The girl looked at Rocco in fear.  “LET GO OF ME YOU PERV!!”

The crowd started to laugh.  Rocco was confused until he realized the scene.  When he caught the girl, he grabbed her breasts by mistake.  And what was worse; this girl happened to be Holly Heaton, the principal’s daughter.  Holly got off Rocco, slapped him, and ran away.  Rocco now stood between a crowd of laughing teens that saw what happened.  A nearby teacher, who also saw the scene, came up to Rocco and pulled him out.

Rocco sighed.  “Well at least now....”

“QUIET!  I will not tolerate sexual harassment in here.” the teacher yelled.

“WHAT!” Rocco exclaimed.  “Sexual harassment?!  But I…I…”

“Save it” the teacher said.  “You’re lucky I’m in a good mood.  I’ll just give you detention.”

Rocco’s eyes shot out.  “DETENTION!?!?”

The teacher glared at him. “Tonight.”  He wrote out the detention slip and handed it to a startled lynx.  “See you later.”
